Permanent Calibration is one of the most significant technical advantages of Hard-Bearing Balancing Machines. It refers to the capability of the machine to maintain a fixed calibration setting that remains valid for all rotors within the machine's rated capacity, without requiring re-calibration when changing from one rotor type to another.
In a Hard-Bearing system, the sensors measure the force exerted by the rotor. Because the support structure is rigid and the mechanical stiffness of the pedestals is constant and known, the mathematical relationship between the measured force signals and the actual unbalance is fixed.
The Logic: If the machine knows the exact physical geometry of the supports (distance between pedestals, diameter of the rollers, etc.), it can calculate the unbalance magnitude and angle purely based on the force signals, regardless of the rotor's specific weight or inertia (within capacity).
For manufacturers and end-users, Permanent Calibration translates directly into higher productivity and lower operational costs:
Rapid Setup/Changeover: Operators do not need to perform a "trial run" (or "calibration run") with a master rotor or perform complex weight/dimension inputs every time the production line switches to a different type of workpiece.
Reduced Human Error: Since the machine is "always calibrated," there is no risk of an operator forgetting to re-calibrate or using an outdated setting, leading to more consistent quality control.
Time Efficiency: In a high-volume factory, saving 10–20 minutes of calibration time per shift significantly increases the daily output of the machines.
Ease of Use: It lowers the skill barrier for operators. The system handles the complex math behind the scenes, allowing the operator to simply mount the rotor and read the results.
| Feature | Permanent Calibration (Hard-Bearing) | Traditional/Soft-Bearing Calibration |
| Calibration Frequency | One-time factory calibration | Required for every new rotor type/batch |
| Setup Time | Instant / Very Fast | Significant (requires test runs) |
| Operator Skill | Low-Moderate | Moderate-High |
| Productivity | High (ideal for batch production) | Lower (due to frequent re-calibration) |
